Visual Interpretation

I began by uploading the tif file for this map and removed the base map. I created a feature class with the create feature class tool. The first feature class was titled “Tone,” which identified the various tones (very light, light, medium, dark, very dark) of the tif file. This feature class has a polygon geometry, which I used to outline the various toned areas. I created a new field in the attribute table titled “name” in which I labeled the tones. I then labeled each polygon and adjusted the font, size, and color. I also adjusted the symbology of the polygons. I then repeated this process with a feature class for “texture,” which included very fine, fine, mottled, coarse, and very coarse. I outlined the texture areas, added the attribute tables data, labeling, and symbology. I used this map to create a layout with a title, a legend, and credits.

For this map, I began by opening a new map and added the Tif file. I also removed the basemap from my map. Next, I used the create feature class tool to create the layer “ShapeSize” which is a point layer. Under this layer I chose three points the water tower, the pier, and a car that I was able to identify based on their shape and size. I then went into the attribute table for this layer, added a field titled “name,” and then filled in the identification of each point under “name.” Next, I repeated this step for the layer “shadows” and placed points on three locations. These three points were an umbrella, a palm tree, and a unique roof. I was able to identify based on their shadows. I then filled in the “name” field with the identification of the points. I also filled the attribute table the same as the “ShapeSize” field. Then, I repeated this process again for the “patterns.” The three points were a parking lot, sand dunes, and the shallow ocean. I completed the attribute table like the rest of the layers. Finally, I created the “associations” layer, which had two points a restaurant and a boardwalk. I completed the attribute table as mentioned above.

After creating these layers and placing these points, I then edited the symbology and labeling. Each layer was labeled with the “name” category. I adjusted the positioning of the labels to make them as visible as possible. I gave each layer its own color within symbology and made them all the same size. I created a new layout with a legend, a title, and credit.
